~ The Fire Nation ~
“The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will, and the energy to achieve what they want.” -General Iroh
(( Please note that some of the Origin info, Such as the Lion turtles lore, is not RP knowledge, unless you become a Fire Sage! Thank you! ))
The Fire Nation is one of the world’s four nations and four sovereign states. It is a an absolute monarchy, and is led by the Fire Lord. The Fire Nation is located in the Western Hemisphere and is comprised of several islands.
The Fire Nation people, were once like most of the world, living on a Lion Turtle City in the Era of Raava. In this time, they gained Firebending via Lion Turtle energybending and used it when they ventured into the spirit wilds to gather resources. In order to protect themselves, they needed bending to fight off hostile spirits. These people eventually broke off to form the Fire Nation after the Lion Turtles renounced their roles as protectors of mankind. These people left the Lion Turtle cities in favor of establishing the now strong Fire Nation in the western isles. Several aspects of the Fire Nation lifestyle came from these times, such as the use of hybrid pigs for primary means of food. More importantly, the longstanding desire to conquer and expand into the unknown came from the several attempts of villages in the spirit wilds. This created the warrior culture of the Fire Nation that we now see today.
After the breaking of the Lion Turtle, many cultures came forward from this movement. The first known society of the Fire Nation were the “Sun Warriors”, who first ruled most of the Fire Nation. Their culture was highly different from what is currently the country of the Fire Nation. Soon the Sun Warriors began to disappear, leaving a great influence on the Fire Nation. Sometime after this demise, a group of sages came together and formed a united Fire Nation. They became the “Fire Sages” and are descended from the “Bhanti Tribe”, a tribe of spiritual humans who had settled in the Spirit wilds. This formed a council government, which was later taken over by the Fire Lord and his family at an unknown date.
Government:
Head of State: Fire Lord
Religious Authority: High Sage, Great Sage, and the Council of Fire Sages.
National Emblem:
The national Emblem of the Fire Nation, is a three pong fire shaped like a tear. This symbol is wore by men of the military, on flags, and on the sides of crates and most things being shipped from the Fire Nation. The Emblem is also commonly wore by members of the Royal Family in their Hair knot. The emblem is also printed among each type of Fire Nation Coin: Gold, Silver, and Bronze pieces varying in shapes and sizes, the Fire Nation Emblem lays in rest in the middle of each coin.
Culture:
The dress code and symbols of the Fire Nation are naturally modeled after fire. Like other nations, it is based on the elemental colour, which is red. The majority of the buildings in the Fire Nation are red and made of stone. Red pagoda-style roofs are favored by the country. Fire Nation symbols are often put on important buildings for decoration. It is also common to have a painting of the Fire Lord inside the home. The society respects a clean system of organizing and teaching; as soon as a Firebender can make fire, they are placed into a school to be taught; if the person is a non-bender, they are put into a school as soon as they can walk.
Unlike other nations, The Fire Nation is well known for its long tradition of gender equality. There are hardly any occupational boundaries for women. They have full access to Higher Education and Military positions. Once earned, Women can also have positions of power in society. A Female Firelord is NOT uncommon. It is even common for Princesses to take leadership in war times, and command armies. On that note, Weddings in the Fire Nation are large and expensive events. The wedding party is large, and the bride and groom often buy silks and fine clothes for the event, including large-scale decoration including lanterns of flowers, and a banquet typical for weddings. The wedding itself is presided by either a Fire Sage or an Elder.
The “Fire Lily Festival” is held around the Fire Nation to celebrate the flower’s blooms, famed as a symbol of fiery passion and persists throughout their short blooming season.
Customs:
Fire Nation society places a great emphasis on respect and honour, especially towards the nobility and elders; the concept of the Agni Kai comes from these beliefs. Should one be honoured enough to be in the presence of a member of the Royal Family, that person needs to present themselves in a matter of respect or they risk being challenged to an Agni Kai to avenge the disrespected Royalty’s honour. When among a elder or superior it is polite to bow down. Unlike other parts of the world, this bow consists of placing a hand in a straight fashion with other being curled into a fist, then placed underneath it vertically. Bowing is required upon greeting someone, when something fortunate has occurred, and after business and departure.
An Agni Kai is a traditional Firebending duel that is centuries old. It is a fight for one's honour and is won only when one opponent burns the other. The outcome of the fight affects the honour of each opponent. The Agni Kai, is always fought at sundown. If one person has a dispute with another person, he or she may challenge the other person to an Agni Kai. If the challenge is accepted, the two move to either an arena or whatever open area is available, such as a parade ground or plaza. It starts with two opposite to each other with backs turned. The combatants stand to face each other, shed their shoulder garment, which was used only in a formal Agni Kai, and the duel begins as soon as a gong sounds. In a proper duel, each combatant fights with a bare torso(if male), and ends when one of the two are burned.
Industry:
The prize industry of the Fire Nation is working with metal, including ships, and many different types of weapons. It is also commonly said that the Fire Nation produces the best “Red Stuff”.
